Without hacking the game, it’s not possible to give Galuf the final Job, Mime. As a result, the rom doesn’t contain sprites for him in a Mime outfit! Others have crafted sprites for this purpose: these are my version.

Following the same design as the other heroes’ Mime capes, his is a strong contrasting color against his Freelancer clothes. No one else wears a blue cape in this Job, and the darker teal from his coat works well as a shading color. Much like Bartz, he loses one color from the Freelancer palette in order to create the cape color (the darkest gold used to shade his pants, whereas Bartz loses the bright green that accents his shoes and belt). The loss of this shading color is less dramatic here than with Bartz’s outfit, but it does make Galuf appear more luminous than usual.
Taking a cue from how Faris keeps her scarf when a Mime, Galuf also keeps his teal coat. The inner lining of his cape could have become dark teal, but it would have matched the coat too closely so the darker shirt color was chosen instead— this choice makes for a more polychrome appearance, which is fun and aligns with the Mime design for the other heroes.

This patch only changes data in 2 places in the rom: it alters the checksum (at $FFDC) and then adds uncompressed graphics into the tiles from $138000 thru $14ABDF. If you look at this region in a FFV rom, you’ll see that it’s completely empty of any sprite data, and since it represents 1536 bytes at the 16-color image depth, this 1516b size of this patch makes good sense.

Check out how the empty 48 tiles are filled in, after using the .ips file shared above.

That’s all there is to this patch. Use this outfit in our own hacks freely, and enjoy.
