Google, as a company, is evil. It’s time to move to a less evil and ALSO more secure email provider.

Proton offers mail for free, and you can pay a small amount to get Drive and other perks too (domain hosting, “alias” burner emails, etc). Calendar is available too— I forget if it’s free tier at this moment.

These screencaps are a loose guide for moving email (& more) over to Proton.

Overview

  1. Access Proton
    1. create new email
    2. choose to Migrate in
  2. Log in to Gmail
    1. confirm that you’re OK linking to Proton for the export
  3. In Proton:
    1. Confirm you’re seeing old emails from Gmail

Proton Config

Make a new email. (Not shown, it’s standard and easy and obv.)

The rest of this is pretty easy to do, too.

Just go to Settings in your new email and …

And Choose Import via Easy Switch.

A pop-up will ask if you allow Proton to interface with Google. (Not shown.)

Gmail Config

Surprisingly, all you need to do is authenticate one time with Google, thru the pop-up that Proton sends. Everything else will happen on their site now!

Google sucks, they don’t offer this level of frictionless user experience anymore, imho.
